Legacy of Faith

I started reading the Psalms when my grandmother passed away in the fall of 2024. I felt lost and I missed her presence greatly. My grandmother and I shared a birthday week, countless memories and I don't recall one conversation where she wasn't sharing part of her faith with me. What I didn't know until talking with my mother later was that Psalms was her favorite book in the Bible. (Mental note to borrow a look at grandma's Bible next time I am at my parents)

After 2 years of studying this book on and off. I finished it on Saturday. Honestly, I think it is the first time I have read Psalms all the way through. As I read about praise, prayer, emotion and the power of testimony I walked through two military moves. Pregnancy, a husband spending long hours in training, the birth of our daughter and so many other life moments. The Psalms echoed my swirling emotions of joy, praise, thanksgiving, sadness, hurt, loneliness, pain, but faithfully reminded me that just because we are hurting does not give us an excuse to stop worshipping or praying. Advice I suspect my grandma would give me if we were having tea and chatting at her kitchen table.

I see why my grandmother loved this part of scripture so dearly. I see verses that she lived out to the fullest. Looking at Psalms with knowing her life story I see where she gathered her strength, love, steadfastness, and faithfulness. The sweet thing about scripture is that I know as I continue to read and cling to it as I navigate my life. It will guide me, comfort me and lead me just as it did for my grandma. I can read the same scriptures she read as she navigated marriage, motherhood, serving at church, being a teacher and a friend. Though I can't sit at her kitchen table anymore even though I desperately wish I could. I know any and all wisdom she would give me would be founded in the Bible. Reading it connects me not just to her, but to the generations upon generations of Christians that have come before me. I pray that as I mother I can impart elements of my grandmother's legacy of faith and steadfastness onto my daughter.

What a beautiful privilege it is to be part of a line of generationally God fearing women and to be entrusted to disciple the next. That is what Kingdom Arrows is all about cultivating hearts that desire to know and love Jesus through faith-filled daily rhythms.

Long legacy throughout the generations of serving the Lord is a blessing....but we still have to CHOOSE each day whom we will serve. Beautifully written.

Hi Friend! Let's Have Coffee!

I love meeting with friends for a cup of coffee and a catch up session. However, with moving all the time for my husband's job, they have become more virtual. So grab a coffee, curl up in your favorite spot and let's have a coffee chat.
