To the Girl Who Desires Her Next Season

I have been thinking a lot about seasons lately. I have always been the girl who has been thinking ahead to what is next in life. When I was in high school I was thinking about college. When I was in college I thought about what my "real" adult life might look like. When I was single I wanted to be married and when I wasn't a mother I was dreaming of becoming one.

As I was sipping my latte in the Sam's Club parking lot, texting my husband what his last minute grocery requests were, while my baby in the back seat took a nap. In that moment I was living so many answered prayers. Sometimes that is easy to miss in midst of every day.

In that same moment I was exhausted. It had been a long couple weeks of solo-parenting, teething and I was exhausted. It would have been easy to complain about how hard moments had been and I had. However, I was complaining about the life that I had so desperately begged God for. As I sat there sipping my Raz White Latte, I thought about how each season of my life prepared me for the next season.

In high school I learned how to navigate some independence while still living at home with my parents shouldering most of the responsibility. In college, I learned that I can be brave enough to do things solo and the joy of experiencing adventures outweighs the fear of what if it doesn't go well. In the times that plans do go sideways I learned that there is always another way out. In my single years I got to learn some about who I was, explore passions and learn new things. When I got married we got to combine our passions and go on new adventures. This laid the foundation for us to become parents and raise our daughter.

The season we are in is on purpose. My life verse is Jeremiah 29:11 which says "I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to give you hope and a future." The season we are in is preparing us for what we are headed to. Nothing is wasted because we serve a God who is working all things for our good. However, I know from personal experience that even though this is all true it doesn't make the waiting easier. I don't have all the answers sometimes the waiting is just down right painful.

So here is texts I would send a girl desiring her wife and motherhood season, but isn't yet.

  1. I pray with you that God will send you your Godly man and that your relationship will be a testimony of His love.

  2. May God send you sweet sisters in Christ to champion you on in your dream, cry with you, do life with you and encourage you in your walk with Christ.

  3. I encourage you to go live your life. Say yes to the girls trips, serve at church, move to that city, take the road trip, go to dinner even if its by yourself, journal, learn who you are

  4. But most of all make faith part of your daily rhythm. I know its hard but if you can get up at 6am for yoga you can get up at 5:30am and open your Bible.

  5. Make friendships with women of all ages and stages. Ask questions, take them to coffee and learn from them.

  6. Don't stop praying for the desires of your heart, but remember that God knows them better than you do

  7. Live expectantly as hard as it is don't waste the present longing for the future. You've got Kingdom work to do in this season too Sis.

What texts would you add? Which one is your favorite? What is something a hard season has taught you that you used when living an answered prayer?

Hi Friend! Let's Have Coffee!

I love meeting with friends for a cup of coffee and a catch up session. However, with moving all the time for my husband's job, they have become more virtual. So grab a coffee, curl up in your favorite spot and let's have a coffee chat.
