You Are in the Mission Field

If you didn't know this already let me be the first to tell you, you are in the mission field. Well, hold on let me ask you a few on-boarding questions. First have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Second do you have things you are doing in your life? If the answer to those questions is "yes" then congrats you are in the mission field. Because the thing is God created you on purpose, for a purpose. He made you exactly the way you are so that you could serve His Kingdom in a unique way.

But so many of us, myself included forget that this life we are living is our mission. Being a wife, motherhood, college student, our jobs, serving in church, our friendships they aren't fillers because we aren't missionaries, they are our mission field. Yes, some of us are called to be vocational missionaries, but ALL of us have a mission field we just don't always recognize it as such.

Where you are at in life is not an accident. God doesn't make mistakes, He has you exactly where He wants you to be. We may not love where we are, I definitely haven't at times, but God is always at work. I didn't love being single the last few years before I got married, but God used the freedom of my singleness to help me cultivate a stronger relationship with Him. It allowed me yes to serving in a variety of ministries, teaching in several schools and investing in relationships that I maybe wouldn't have if I was married. That being said I still didn't fully appreciate that season until after it was behind me.

However, that season taught me to look for opportunities in front of me. In our marriage my husband and I have looked at each other and said sentences like "I don't know why this is happening, but God must have something for us here." This mindset of there is always Kingdom work in front of us has helped me find contentment in seasons I would have otherwise wished away. Because when we are walking day by day following God's promptings we are fully living in our identity as a child of God and in that is true contentment.

Romans 12:6-8 describes the different giftings that people have and use to serve His Kingdom. We all have unique gifts, perhaps yours is hospitality, but you can't host in how we traditionally think of hosting. Try hosting your family ( I have a whole other blog post on this) what can you do to make your home inviting? How can you have a hospitalible spirit when your husband comes home from work or your kids come home from school? How would this create space for intentional conversations?

Faith is found in the ordinary. So much of Jesus's discipleship happened in homes, around tables, on walks and in meeting people in daily life. Mission work doesn't happen just in church or in third world countries, it is during bath time, at the kitchen counter, in that classroom, on your street, in your office, wherever your feet are. For me when I look at who is represented in the Bible I find great comfort because I see myself. The people God uses to build His Kingdom are fathers, mothers, business owners, daughters, sons, students, single people, married people, sick people, all people.

So where is your mission field? I would love to know, share in the comments!

Hi Friend! Let's Have Coffee!

I love meeting with friends for a cup of coffee and a catch up session. However, with moving all the time for my husband's job, they have become more virtual. So grab a coffee, curl up in your favorite spot and let's have a coffee chat.
